THE MAN WHO PLANTED TREES - Narrated by Christopher Plummer
The narrator, well-known actor Christopher Plummer, tells of a plain and good man, who possesses an innate feel for nature and who manages to create a forest in a desolate and arid area.
It is the story of a shepherd who lives alone with his sheep not far from a drought-stricken and windswept hamlet. He is a man of few words who lives in harmony with nature. Now about fifty years old, he has gone through some difficult times and has chosen to devote the rest of his life to a patient and anonymous endeavor.
Using he extensive knowledge of nature, his aim is to create a forest where everyone saw an unsalvageable desert by planting seeds and acorns one by one, with great care. Then, as if by magic, the land once believed to be cursed becomes green again. Life and youth return to the community, but no one knows that this "miracle" is the doing of one man.
The narration, like the animation of the film, is a tribute to the selfless labor and the generosity of the man whom neither wars nor setbacks can deter, as he toils all the while under the cloak of anonymity.
His work has inspired millions of tree-planting projects and activities, which give hope to both humanity and the planet. |
